Water Conservation Trust of Canada

The Water Conservation Trust of Canada (Water Trust) is an economically-based program working to reward the conservation of water across Canada. Water Trust uses a variety of tools, including economic instruments to maintain, restore, and protect the water of our rivers.

As an independent, non-governmental agency, Water Trust:

  • Has the flexibility to secure funding for water allocations, and can react more readily to the social, economic and environmental changes.

  • Can work with the government to enforce instream water rights, and encourage regulation and policy that promotes water conservation.

  • Brings awareness to the issue of water conservation, and can educate the public about the benefits of a healthy level of instream flow.

  • Can financially reward conservation measures.

  • Will provide public recognition for the contributions to community made by water transfers.

Collaboration

Water Trust works with stakeholders and interest groups to ensure that we recognize the balance of water for nature, people and industry, ensuring a sustainable future for all.
